Club Bullwinkle fielded three teams in the 2024 Queensland Teams Championship (hosted by Cookies Chess at King’s College (Pimpama) on 30 November). Team “Old Hat, New Hat”, featuring GM David Smerdon on Board 1, finished the tournament in second place with 32 points, just half a point behind the winning Mars Chess Club. Successful club debuts to Nick Bond and Ryan Liaw, who both scored 6.7/7. Ryan won the Board 4 prize, while Nick shared the Board 6 prize.

Henry Slater-Jones admirably led his “Next Gen” team to upset wins over Redcliffe Seniors and Bullwinkle “Horses Nitwit”, Henry scoring 6/7 himself in the process. “Next Gen” also won three matches and finished on 22.5 points, but impressively played two of the top-three finishing teams in the final two rounds.
